Teacher union activist Siamak Sadeghi Chehrazi arrested in Ahvaz
Hengaw – Monday, March 30, 2026
Iranian authorities arrested Siamak Sadeghi Chehrazi, a Lor and member of the Khuzestan Province Teachers’ Trade Association, at his home in Ahvaz and transferred him to an undisclosed location.
Based on information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, government forces raided Sadeghi Chehrazi’s home on Saturday, March 28, 2026, and arrested him.
Informed sources reported that officers searched the house during the arrest, created an atmosphere of fear and intimidation, and threatened his family, warning them not to share any information about his situation.
The Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers’ Trade Associations stated that the reason for the arrest was reportedly “the use of a VPN.” However, no precise information is available regarding the arresting authority, his place of detention, or his fate, which has raised serious concerns about his safety and well-being.
The arrest of this union activist comes amid a sharp increase in pressure by security institutions on civil and labor activists in recent days, coinciding with the start of military conflict involving Iran.
Hengaw had previously received reports of arrests of individuals on accusations such as possessing satellite internet equipment (Starlink) and using tools to bypass internet censorship.
Following recent attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran, access to the global internet has been completely shut down across the country, and severe restrictions have been imposed on the flow of information.
