Retired teacher and brother detained by Intelligence Ministry forces in Paveh

Sabah Waladbeigi, a retired teacher, environmental activist and head of the Noor Mountaineering Group in Paveh, and his brother, Nawzad Waladbeigi, were detained by Intelligence Ministry forces and transferred to a security detention facility in Kermanshah.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Intelligence Ministry forces raided the Waladbeigi family home in the village of Nuryav, near Paveh in Kermanshah province, on July 1, 2026, without presenting a warrant and detained Sabah Waladbeigi. He previously served as governor of the Bayangan district and the Central District of Paveh.

Waladbeigi told his family during a brief phone call one day after his arrest that he had been transferred to a security detention facility in Kermanshah for interrogation. Eleven days after his detention, he had been denied access to a lawyer of his choice and in-person family visits, while authorities had not provided his family with clear information about his case.

In recent days, Nawzad Waladbeigi was also detained by Intelligence Ministry forces. His whereabouts remain unknown.
