Researcher Mohammadmehdi Hatef arrested by Iranian forces in Tehran

Mohammadmehdi Hatef, a prominent philosophy researcher and translator, was arrested by Iranian forces at his workplace in Tehran and transferred to an undisclosed location. His home was also searched, and several electronic devices as well as some of his works were confiscated.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the arrest took place on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
Sources familiar with the case said security forces later raided his home, searched the premises, and seized electronic equipment along with some of his written works.
Hatef holds a doctorate in philosophy from the Institute for Research in Philosophy and Wisdom of Iran. He has translated a number of works, including The Progress of Science and Its Problems, Darwinian Left, An Introduction to the Philosophy of Medicine, We Are Not Going Back: Life, Loss, and Hope in Wartime Syria, and Cries of the Arab Spring.
The reasons for his arrest, any charges against him, and his place of detention remain unknown.
