Protest detainee Ebrahim Dolatabadi sentenced to death
Hengaw – Wednesday, April 29, 2026
Ebrahim Dolatabadi, who was arrested during the protests in Mashhad earlier this year, has been sentenced to death by Iranian judiciary on charges of “moharebeh” (waging war against God). He is currently being held in Ward 6-1 of Vakilabad Prison, and concerns for his life are mounting.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the death sentence was issued on Monday, April 27, 2026, by Judge Gholamreza Akbari-Moghadam of Branch One of the Revolutionary Court in Mashhad and formally communicated to him. Judicial authorities listed the charges against him as “moharebeh” and “leading the protests.”
Ebrahim Dolatabadi, an athlete and father of two children aged 9 and 14, was arrested during the January 2026 protests in Tabarsi Square.
Reports indicate that at the time of his arrest, his two brothers, Vahid Dolatabadi and Esmail Dolatabadi, as well as his teenage son, were also detained by security forces.
According to informed sources, following the death sentence, he was transferred to Ward 6-1 of Vakilabad Prison. The transfer has heightened fears that the sentence could be carried out imminently.
Sources also state that his father, a veteran of the eight-year Iran–Iraq War, died last year.
