Hengaw warns Alireza Peighambari may face imminent execution following his transfer
Hengaw – Tuesday, June 16, 2026
Alireza Peighambari, a detainee arrested during the January protests in Tehran and sentenced to death on charges of “waging war against God” (moharebeh), may face imminent execution after being transferred to Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj, raising concerns that his sentence could be carried out without prior notice.
Information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights indicates that Alireza Peighambari, a 26-year-old man from Tehran, was abruptly transferred on June 14, 2026, from Greater Tehran Penitentiary (Fashafouyeh Prison) to Ghezel Hesar Prison. The facility is widely known as one of Iran’s main execution sites, particularly for political prisoners.
Hengaw has learned that Peighambari was sentenced to death this spring by Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court on charges of “waging war against God” (moharebeh). His transfer took place while his case remains under appellate review.
Peighambari was arrested by state forces in Tehran on January 9, 2026, during the January protests.
Hengaw Organization for Human Rights expresses deep concern over Peighambari’s fate and considers his transfer to Ghezel Hesar Prison a serious warning sign. Hengaw calls for the immediate intervention of international human rights organizations.
