Disabled teacher Amir Rahimi sentenced to four years in prison in Azna
Hengaw – Sunday, May 17, 2026
Amir Rahimi, a Lor teacher and one of the detainees of the January 2026 protests in Azna, has been sentenced by the Appeals Court of Lorestan province to four years in prison. The sentence has been upheld despite Rahimi suffering from a severe physical disability.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, citing the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers’ Trade Associations, Amir Rahimi was arrested on January 2, 2026, after intervening to prevent the violent arrest of one of his students by Special Unit forces. During the incident, he was severely beaten by security forces before being detained.
Following interrogation procedures, he was transferred to Dorud Prison.
The ruling was officially communicated to his lawyer on May 16, 2026.
Sources told Hengaw that Rahimi, who has 34 years of teaching experience, suffers from severe mobility disabilities affecting both legs and is unable to independently carry out daily activities inside prison.
His critical physical condition has been confirmed multiple times by prison medical authorities and judicial supervisory officials. Despite this, judicial authorities in Lorestan province have repeatedly refused to grant him bail or temporary release over recent months.
