Fourteen days after arrest, fate of Shahram Amini remains unknown
Hengaw – Wednesday, May 20, 2026
Iranian intelligence forces arrested Shahram Amini, a Kurdish man from Marivan County, fourteen days ago at the Bashmakh border crossing while he was returning from the Kurdistan Region. Since then, no information has emerged regarding his whereabouts, legal status, or health condition.
According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the 52-year-old was detained on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, by forces affiliated with the Intelligence Department and transferred to an undisclosed location.
An informed source told Hengaw that Amini’s arrest came shortly after his return from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, where he and his family had traveled to Sulaymaniyah for a five-day visit with their son, Milad. The source added that Milad had been forced to leave his hometown during the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” movement due to his political activities and sustained pressure from security agencies.
Despite repeated follow-ups by Amini’s family, judicial and security authorities have continued to withhold information regarding his place of detention and the charges against him.
