Hengaw – Monday, May 25, 2026

Iranian authorities have continued to withhold information about the fate and whereabouts of Asti Mohammadi, a 67-year-old Kurdish woman from Bukan, two weeks after her arrest. Mohammadi, a former political activist who suffers from multiple medical conditions, has been held incommunicado since her detention, intensifying concerns among her relatives over her health and safety.

Based on reports obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at least 15 armored and operational vehicles belonging to Iranian government forces surrounded Mohammadi’s family home in Bukan on the evening of Monday, May 11, 2026, before arresting her in an atmosphere of intimidation and fear.

Following the raid, agents from the Intelligence Department carried out an extensive search of the house and confiscated several personal belongings, including photo albums and books belonging to Mohammadi. Security forces also seized the mobile phones and laptop belonging to her husband and son.

Asti Mohammadi is the mother of Kowsar Fattahi, a senior member of the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan, as well as Kaveh Fattahi, a political activist based in Europe. The large-scale and coordinated operation carried out to arrest a 67-year-old mother reflects an ongoing strategy of systematic pressure against the families of political activists and members of Kurdish opposition parties by targeting and effectively taking hostage their relatives inside Iran.

Hengaw has learned that Mohammadi was transferred to one of the government detention facilities in Urmia following her arrest. Despite the passage of two weeks, authorities have disclosed no information regarding her place of detention. During this period, she has only been allowed a single 30-second phone call.

Given Asti Mohammadi’s age and her daily need for medication, the complete denial of medical care while she is being held in solitary confinement poses a serious threat to her health and physical well-being. She suffers from heart disease and high blood pressure.
