Three young men sentenced to prison over January protests

Iranian authorities have sentenced three Kurdish men from Dareh Shahr, Ilam Province, to prison following their arrest during the January 2026 protests. Each was handed a prison term of three years and one month.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Mohammadamin Shamsi, 29, Amir Amraei, 23, and Kamyar Amraei, 22, all residents of Karaj originally from Dareh Shahr, were recently sentenced by a branch of the Karaj Revolutionary Court to three years and one month of discretionary imprisonment each.
Hengaw has learned that the verdict was formally communicated to them in recent days inside Qezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.
Government forces arrested the three young men on January 9, 2026, during the protests. Nearly four months later, they remain imprisoned in the general ward of Qezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.
