Kurdish January protest detainee Hazhir Yaghoubi sentenced to prison and flogging in Qorveh

Hazhir Yaghoubi, a Kurdish man from Qorveh who was arrested during the January 2026 protests, has been sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to one year in prison and 31 lashes.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Yaghoubi was sentenced by a criminal court to one year in prison and 31 lashes.

Yaghoubi, a local shopkeeper in Qorveh, was arrested by Iranian security forces during the January 2026 protests over his participation in a strike by local businesses and demonstrations in the city.

He was later temporarily released on bail pending the completion of judicial proceedings.
