Student protest detainee Majid Jamshidzadeh sentenced to prison in Tehran

Majid Jamshidzadeh, an industrial design student at Iran University of Science and Technology in Tehran and one of those arrested during the January 2026 protests, has been sentenced to five years in prison by Iranian authorities.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the sentence was issued in March 2026 by Branch 15 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Salavati, and has been formally communicated to the student.
Jamshidzadeh is currently being held in Great Tehran Penitentiary.
Iranian judicial authorities charged him with “assembly and collusion with intent to disrupt national security” and “disturbing public order.”
Jamshidzadeh, a student admitted in 2022, was arrested on the evening of Friday, January 12, 2026, during protests in Tehran’s Haft Hoz Square.
The case has now been referred to one of the appeals court branches in Tehran province for renewed review, and his family and lawyer are awaiting a final ruling.
