Raheleh Moeini, detained during January protests, sentenced to prison and travel ban

Raheleh Moeini, detained during the January 2026 protests, has been sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to two years and six months in prison, along with an additional penalty.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, a Revolutionary Court sentenced 23-year-old Raheleh Moeini to two years and six months in prison on Saturday, June 13, 2026. Moeini is a biomedical engineering student at the Polytechnic University of Milan and is currently held in Qarchak Prison in Varamin.

She was also sentenced to a two-year travel ban as an additional punishment.

Under the ruling, Moeini was sentenced to one year and six months in prison on charges of “propaganda against the state” and one year on charges of “assembly and collusion against national security,” in addition to a two-year travel ban. Under Iran’s sentence consolidation law, the most severe sentence, one year and six months’ imprisonment, will be enforceable.

Moeini was arrested while visiting Iran during the January 2026 protests and was subsequently transferred to Qarchak Prison.
