Execution of Gilak prisoner carried out in Rasht

Jamal Hassanzadeh, a Gilak prisoner, has been executed at Rasht Central Prison (Lakan) after being sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary on charges of “premeditated murder.”

Based on information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the execution was carried out at dawn on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. Hassanzadeh, 37, had been held in detention for four years after being arrested in connection with a fatal incident that occurred during a dispute and unintended altercation.

He was married and the father of an eight-year-old daughter.

The execution has not been officially announced by state media or outlets affiliated with the judiciary.
