Pediatrician Mohabat Ghafouri rearrested in Lar after confiscation of assets

Five days after the rearrest of Dr. Mohabat Ghafouri, a pediatric specialist in Lar, Fars province, no information has been made available regarding her whereabouts or condition. Ghafouri is among those previously detained during the January 2026 protests, and her assets were recently confiscated by Iranian judicial authorities.

According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Dr. Ghafouri was arrested for a second time on Monday, May 4, 2026, by Iranian government forces.

Sources told Hengaw that her renewed arrest took place after Iranian judicial authorities had already confiscated her property.

Dr. Ghafouri had previously been arrested on the evening of Friday, January 2, 2026, during the wave of arrests linked to the January protests. After approximately eight weeks of detention and legal limbo, she was temporarily released.

Ghafouri is widely known in the region as a respected pediatric specialist and for her charitable activities, including providing financial assistance to underprivileged families.

No information has been released regarding the authority responsible for her arrest, the reasons for her rearrest or the charges brought against her.
