Mohammad Zanganeh sentenced to three years and six months in prison
Hengaw – Friday, June 19, 2026
Mohammad Zanganeh, a 24-year-old resident of Mashhad originally from Torbat-e Heydarieh, has been sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to three years, six months, and one day in prison.
Information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights shows that the Mashhad Revolutionary Court convicted Zanganeh of “assembly and collusion against national security” and “propaganda against the state,” sentencing him to a total of three years, six months, and one day in prison. His trial was held in May 2026.
Under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, which governs the aggregation of sentences, only the most severe punishment, three years' imprisonment, will be enforceable.
According to informed sources, court officials refused to provide a written copy of the verdict to Zanganeh’s lawyer or family members, citing what they described as “security reasons.” They allowed only handwritten notes to be taken from the ruling.
Hengaw previously reported that Zanganeh, then 23, was arrested after Intelligence Department agents raided his family home in Mashhad on the evening of December 13, 2025. He was detained solely for his activity on social media and for posts published on his Instagram account in support of Khosrow Alikurdi, a lawyer who died under suspicious circumstances.
