Hengaw – Monday, August 3, 2026
Babak Eslami Farsani, a lawyer who represented the family of Mehrshad Shahidi, one of those killed during the Woman, Life, Freedom (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) movement in Arak, has been sentenced to nine months in prison by the Tehran Revolutionary Court.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced Eslami Farsani to nine months of discretionary imprisonment on August 2, 2026. The verdict was formally communicated to him the same day.
Sources familiar with the case said he was convicted on the charge of “propaganda against the state.”
Eslami Farsani had previously been summoned in June 2026 to Branch 4 of the Investigative Prosecutor’s Office of Tehran’s District 33 Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office to be formally charged in the case.
A separate judicial case has also been opened against him by the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Arak because of his legal representation of the family of Mehrshad Shahidi in their pursuit of accountability.
