Yurosh Mehralibeyglu sentenced to more than three years in new case

Branch 1 of the Tabriz Revolutionary Court has sentenced Yurosh Mehralibeyglu, a Turkish activist imprisoned in Tabriz Central Prison, to more than three years in a newly filed case.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the verdict was formally served on Mehralibeyglu in Tabriz Central Prison on Monday, July 27, 2026.

The court sentenced Mehralibeyglu to three years and one day in prison on the charge of "inciting or provoking people to wage war and killing" and an additional seven months and 16 days for "propaganda against the state." Under Article 134 of Iran's Islamic Penal Code, which governs the aggregation of sentences, only the harsher sentence of three years and one day is enforceable.

The case stems from Mehralibeyglu's re-arrest on January 5, 2026.

In a separate case, the East Azerbaijan Provincial Court of Appeals sentenced him in May 2026 to six years and two months in prison for "forming an illegal group" and three years and seven months for "assembly and collusion." That case is currently under review by Iran's Supreme Court.

Intelligence Department forces arrested Mehralibeyglu in Jolfa in November 2023 and transferred him to the agency's detention facility in Tabriz. He was transferred to Tabriz Central Prison in February 2024 and was later released on bail pending legal proceedings.
