Political activist Nirvana Torbatinezhad rearrested in Gorgan
Hengaw – Saturday, June 27, 2026
Iranian security forces have rearrested Nirvana Torbatinezhad, a political activist from Gorgan, and transferred her to a security detention facility. She is currently facing two separate judicial cases, with court hearings scheduled for late July.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, security forces raided Torbatinezhad's family home in Gorgan on the morning of Saturday, June 27, 2026, and arrested her.
Informed sources told Hengaw that the agents searched the home before transferring Torbatinezhad to a detention facility operated by the Intelligence Organization of the Law Enforcement Command (FARAJA) in Gorgan. Authorities also confiscated the mobile phones of Torbatinezhad and her mother, Sayeh (Roqieh) Amirkhani.
Torbatinezhad is currently facing two separate judicial cases. She has been summoned to appear before a branch of the Revolutionary Court in Gorgan on July 20, 2026, in the first case, while a hearing in the second has been scheduled for the following day, July 21. The charges in both cases have not been disclosed.
She was previously arrested on February 21, 2026, while attending a memorial marking the 40th day after the killing of Hossein Soleimani, who was killed during the January 2026 protests in Gorgan. Officers from the Public Security Intelligence Police detained her and released her on bail 16 days later. She was initially sentenced to six months in prison in that case, but Branch 1 of the Golestan Province Court of Appeals later commuted the sentence to a fine of 30 million tomans.
Torbatinezhad was also arrested at her workplace on September 10, 2023, and released on bail after approximately one month. She was initially sentenced to 10 months in prison on charges of “membership in groups opposed to the state” and “assembly and collusion,” but was later acquitted of both charges on appeal.
