Hengaw – Monday, June 8, 2026

Sarina (Marzieh) Aghalar, a 26-year-old political prisoner from Isfahan, is currently serving the sixth month of a three-and-a-half-year prison sentence in the women's ward of Evin Prison in Tehran. She was previously arrested and sentenced to imprisonment over her activities on social media.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Aghalar, who is imprisoned on political and security-related charges, has remained in the women's ward of Evin Prison for nearly six months without being granted furlough.

Aghalar was previously sentenced by a branch of the Tehran Revolutionary Court to three years and six months of discretionary imprisonment on political and security-related charges. The allegations against her were based entirely on her critical and exposé-style activities on social media and online platforms.

Following the confirmation of her sentence on appeal and the issuance of an enforcement order, Aghalar was arrested on December 15, 2025, and transferred to the women's ward of Evin Prison to begin serving her sentence.
