Political prisoner Arezou Azarmsafat denied family visits and phone calls in Evin Prison
Hengaw – Wednesday, June 10, 2026
Arezou Azarmsafat, a political prisoner serving a prison sentence in Tehran’s Evin Prison, has been denied the right to family visits and telephone contact.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Azarmsafat has been barred from in-person visits and phone calls since Sunday, June 7, 2026. The restrictions have been imposed for an indefinite period.
Sources report that the punitive measures were imposed after prison authorities accused her of “singing protest songs and chanting slogans” inside the prison.
Azarmsafat was convicted on charges of “cooperation with an opposition group” and initially sentenced to five years in prison. Following her acceptance of the verdict, her sentence was reduced to three years and nine months.
She was first arrested by Iranian government forces on May 1, 2024, and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison, a detention facility operated by the Ministry of Intelligence. She was temporarily released on May 20, 2024.
On August 26, 2024, Azarmsafat was re-arrested to begin serving her prison sentence and transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison, where she has remained incarcerated ever since.
