Three political activists sentenced to prison over statement supporting Mir-Hossein Mousavi

Seyed Alireza Beheshti Shirazi, Nasser Daneshfar, and Mohammad Javad Dardakeshan, three signatories to a statement supporting Mir-Hossein Mousavi, have been sentenced by the Islamic Republic's judiciary to a combined total of 36 months in prison.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the sentences were issued by Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court on the charge of "propaganda activity against the state" and have been formally communicated to the defendants' lawyers.

Under the ruling, Beheshti Shirazi and Daneshfar were each sentenced to 15 months' imprisonment, while Dardakeshan received a six-month prison sentence.

The news outlet Emtedad, citing the defendants' lawyers, reported that the case was initiated in February 2026 based on a report by the Legal Affairs Department of the Ministry of Intelligence. The prosecution was based on the three men's signatures on a joint statement endorsed by more than 400 political activists in support of a declaration issued by Mir-Hossein Mousavi condemning the crackdown on the January 2026 protests.
