Saman Ghaderi, January protest detainee, sentenced to 14 years

The Iranian judiciary has sentenced Saman Ghaderi, a Kurdish man from Urmia detained during the January protests, to 14 years in prison.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Ghaderi, 37, a political prisoner held in Greater Tehran Central Penitentiary, was sentenced by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari.
Ghaderi was sentenced to 11 years for “acting against national security” and three years for “insulting the sacred,” totaling 14 years.
The sentence was communicated to Ghaderi on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. He subsequently challenged the ruling and filed an appeal.
IRGC Intelligence forces arrested Ghaderi in Tehran in March 2026. Following initial interrogations, he was transferred to Greater Tehran Central Penitentiary, where he remains held.
