Theater actor and civil activist Forouzan Ansari sentenced to one year in prison in Bandar Abbas

Forouzan Ansari, a theater actor and civil activist from Bandar Abbas who was arrested during the January 2026 protests, has been sentenced to one year in prison by the Revolutionary Court in the city.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 3 of the Bandar Abbas Revolutionary Court issued the sentence, which was formally served on Ansari on July 21, 2026.
Ansari was arrested by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence on January 11, 2026, during the protests and transferred to the agency’s detention facility in Bandar Abbas. After 10 days in detention and interrogation, she was released on bail on January 22, 2026, pending the conclusion of judicial proceedings.
According to a court document obtained by Hengaw, Ansari’s trial was held on June 6, 2026, before Branch 3 of the Bandar Abbas Revolutionary Court. She was ultimately sentenced to one year of discretionary imprisonment on the charge of “propaganda against the state.” Under the court’s ruling, the verdict may be appealed before the provincial appellate court.
