Female singer Anita Papist sentenced to 74 lashes in Iran

Anita Papist, a Tehran-based singer, has been sentenced to 74 lashes and additional punishments by the Islamic Republic's judiciary as authorities continue to intensify restrictions on female performers.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 1088 of the Second Criminal Court at Tehran's Ershad Judicial Complex sentenced Papist to 74 lashes on the charge of "offending public decency."

Authorities have also confiscated her passport and blocked her mobile phone line.

Papist had been sharing her songs through her Instagram account.
