Five Turks sentenced to combined 40 months in prison by Miyandoab court

An Iranian court has sentenced five Turkish people from Miyandoab to combined 40 months in prison over their social media activity.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Arash Kahpour, Ramin Eslami Barough, Reza Pahlavaniyan, Hossein Javadeh, and Jalal Korddeyblu were each sentenced to eight months in prison by Branch 103 of the Miyandoab Criminal Court No. 2 on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, on the charge of "propaganda against the state" through activity on social media.
The five have 20 days from the date the verdict was served to appeal the ruling.
The court cited the defendants' social media activity as the basis for the charge of "propaganda against the state."
