Mother, 8-year-old daughter killed in Qazvin; husband, teenage son arrested

A 47-year-old woman, Esmat Jabbari, and her eight-year-old daughter, Setareh Karbasi, were killed in Qazvin, allegedly by Jabbari's husband with the assistance of their 17-year-old son. Authorities said the suspects cited "family disputes" as the motive for the killings.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Esmat Jabbari, 47, and Setareh Karbasi, 8, were killed in late July 2026 after being deliberately exposed to toxic substances that caused fatal poisoning by inhalation.

Before she was killed, the eight-year-old girl reportedly woke after hearing noises and witnessed the attack.

The suspect initially attempted to stage the deaths as the result of a robbery. With the alleged assistance of his 17-year-old son, who sustained minor burns and symptoms of poisoning, he claimed that unidentified intruders had entered the home, assaulted him, and poisoned his wife and daughter, Iranian state-affiliated media reported.

Investigators later determined that the account was fabricated. During the initial investigation, the suspects confessed to the killings and said they had acted because of "family disputes."
