Iran executes Zahra Azizpour convicted of murder at Rasht prison

Iranian authorities executed Zahra Azizpour, a 43-year-old Turkish woman from Ardabil who had been sentenced to death for murder, at Lakan Prison in Rasht.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Azizpour was executed at dawn on August 25, 2026, at Rasht Central Prison, also known as Lakan Prison.

Sources familiar with the case said Azizpour, the mother of one child, was arrested six years ago on the charge of murdering her husband and was subsequently sentenced to death under Iran’s qisas (retributive justice) laws.

Iranian state media and judicial authorities have not publicly announced the execution.
