Three women killed by their husbands in separate femicide cases across Iran
Hengaw – Friday, June 12, 2026
Three women were killed by their husbands in Tehran, Lahijan, and Aqqala in what constitute cases of femicide. In each case, state-affiliated media attributed the killings to “family disputes,” a vague term commonly used to describe domestic violence and gender-based killings.
Information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights indicates that the three killings occurred in separate incidents in different parts of Iran and were subsequently reported by state-affiliated media.
According to Rokna News Agency, a 35-year-old woman and mother of two children, aged 8 and 10, was murdered while asleep in Tehran’s Bisim neighborhood. Her husband allegedly attacked her with a hammer and a knife, killing her at the scene. The suspect was arrested and claimed he committed the murder following an argument with his wife.
In Lahijan, a 46-year-old woman was killed by her husband. According to Shargh newspaper, the 66-year-old suspect later confessed to the murder and told police that he had abandoned her body in the Astaneh-ye Ashrafiyeh area. The victim’s body has not yet been recovered. He subsequently surrendered to authorities and cited “family disputes” as the motive for the killing.
In another incident, a 38-year-old woman was killed by her husband in a village near Aqqala. The 41-year-old suspect was arrested and likewise attributed the crime to “family disputes.”
The identities of the victims and perpetrators were not disclosed in the reports.
