Woman killed by husband in so-called ‘honor’ killing in Marand
Hengaw – Monday, July 13, 2026
A 28-year-old woman was killed by her husband in the city of Marand in a so-called “honor” killing.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the victim, identified only as Zohreh, was killed on July 8, 2026. She was the mother of two children, ages 2 and 5.
The woman’s husband strangled her to death in front of their two young children before fleeing the scene, leaving her body inside the family home.
Sources familiar with the case said the couple’s 5-year-old child later informed neighbors that his mother had been killed. Neighbors then went to the house and discovered her body.
The suspect’s motive has been described as preserving the family’s “honor.” The term is commonly used to justify violence against women accused of violating perceived family or social norms.
