Neda Jalilian, a 26-year-old woman and mother of a four-year-old child from Malekan, East Azerbaijan province, was killed by her husband, Mehran Jalali, who subsequently staged her death as a suicide in an attempt to mislead investigators.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Jalilian was killed by her husband on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at her family home in Yuzbash Kandi village, Malekan County.
Sources told Hengaw that Jalilian worked as a DJ at celebrations and weddings in the area. She had recently returned to her family home in Yuzbash Kandi following severe domestic violence by her husband.
Hengaw has learned that on the day of the killing, Jalali went to the home of Jalilian’s parents, who were also his relatives, and severely assaulted them. After her parents were taken to hospital for treatment, he entered the house and fatally beat Jalilian.
Sources close to the Jalilian family said that following the fatal assault, Jalali hanged his wife’s body in an attempt to make her death appear to be a suicide. However, a forensic examination determined that Jalilian had died as a result of severe physical assault and that her death was a homicide. Jalali was subsequently arrested by police.
