Mahmoud Qanbari Rad sentenced to two years in prison

Mahmoud Qanbari Rad, a 40-year-old network security specialist and political prisoner held at the Great Tehran Penitentiary (Fashafouyeh Prison), has been sentenced to two years in prison by the Tehran Revolutionary Court.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the sentence was issued by Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Mohammad-Mehdi Shahmirzadi, and was communicated to Qanbari Rad at Fashafouyeh Prison.

Qanbari Rad was sentenced to two years in prison on the charge of “assembly and collusion against national security.” During the investigation stage, he had also faced more serious security-related charges, including “collecting classified information” and “providing information to Israel.”

Qanbari Rad was arrested in Tehran in May 2026 after security forces raided his home. He was held in solitary confinement for one month at a security detention facility in Evin Prison, where he underwent intensive interrogation, before being transferred to the Great Tehran Penitentiary.
