11 Kurdish Religious Activists Were Sentenced to Death and Imprisonment

The Revolutionary Court of Urmia has sentenced an activist to death and another 10 to prison. One of those 10 activists who were sentenced to prison is a 70-year-old man.

Hengaw has learned that 7 activists from the religious minorities were tried at the Revolutionary Court of Urmia in which the judge Sheikhlou was in charge. In this court trial one of the accused whose identity is disclosed as Mahyaddin Tazevared was charged with enmity against God and was sentenced to death.

It is worth mentioning that 10 more activists were sentenced to prison. The activists were informed about their prison sentences on June 2.

The sentences are as followed:
1- Mahyaddin Tazevared from Oshnavieh, charged with enmity against God, sentenced to death.
2- Abdulsalam Mardan from Oshnavieh, charged with membership in extremist religious groups, sentenced to 10 years in prison.
3- Ali Reza Fatah, from Boukan, charged with membership in extremist religious groups, sentenced to 10 years in prison.
4- Mala Rahmat Nesouhi, from Mahabad, charged with membership in extremist religious groups, sentenced to 10 years in prison.
5 Hesam Mohammadi Khajlou, from Oshnavieh, charged with propaganda against the system, sentenced to one year in prison.
6- Nezam Naderi, from Boukan, charged with propaganda against the system, sentenced to one year in prison.
7- Jalal Rostami Nawrozlou, from Mahabad, charged with propaganda against the system, sentenced to one year in prison.
8- Mala Abdullah Ma’roufi, 70 years old from Mahabad, charged with propaganda against the system, sentenced to one year in prison.
9- Ahmad Elahi, from Mahabad, charged with propaganda against the system, sentenced to one year in prison.
10- Khaled Ghaffari, from Sardasht, charged with propaganda against the system, sentenced to one year in prison.
11- Sherzad (pseudonym), from Mahabad, charged with propaganda against the system, sentenced to one year in prison.

The 11 Kurds mentioned above were arrested by the security forces during Autumn and Winter of 2018 and were transferred to Urmia prison. At the moment Mahyeddin Tazevard is kept in prison and six of the activists were granted parole and are temporarily out of prison.
