57-year-old Kurdish citizen arrested to serve his imprisonment sentence in Piranshahr

Hengaw: A Kurdish citizen from Piranshahr district of West Azerbaijan (Urmia) province in Iranian Kurdistan who was detained  3 years ago and sentenced to prison  by Iranian  judiciary  has been arrested to serve his sentence.

According to a report received by Hengaw  Human Rights Organization, on Monday, February 8, 2021, Ali Azarbarzin, a 57-year-old citizen  from Piranshahr, was arrested and transferred to Naghadeh central prison to serve his five-year sentence.

Ali Azarbarzin was arrested by Iranian security forces in 2018 after assassination of Mehdi Salmasi, the commander of the Piranshahr Anti- Drug Trafficking Unit , and was temporarily released on bail until the end of inspection process .

This Kurdish citizen was finally sentenced to five years in prison  on charges of “ collaborating with Democratic Party of Kurdistan-Iran “ by 102nd Branch of the  Criminal Court in Piranshahr , headed  by Judge Amir Ferasat , in October 2019,

and this sentence was upheld by the Court of Appeals.
