Hengaw: A political prisoner from Baneh, who was sentenced to death by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran and whose death sentence was overturned by the Supreme Court to 9 years in prison.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Human Rights Organization, on Saturday, July 17, 2021, Saman Karimi, a political prisoner from Baneh who had previously been sentenced to death and 11 years in prison and whose sentence had been overturned by the Supreme Court, held a hearing.  According to the verdict issued by Branch 4 of the Court of Appeal of Kurdistan Province, he was sentenced to a total of 9 years in prison.

According to the verdict, Saman Karimi was sentenced to 4 years in prison on charges inmembership in the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran,  4 years in prison for conspiracy against national security, and to 1 year in prison for propaganda against the regime.  According to the law on aggregation of sentences, the most severe sentence, i.e. 4 years of imprisonment, is applicable, including the days of previous detention.

Saman Karimi from Baneh was arrested on Thursday, November 8, 2018 by the IRGC intelligence forces and transferred to Shahramfar Detention Center in Sanandaj. After three months of detention, he was transferred to the Central Prison of this city.

It is worth to mention that Saman Karimi was sentenced to death and sentenced to 11 years in prison on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj, headed by Judge Saeedi, on charges of "Rebellion through membership in the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran."

  Saman Karimi was finally temporarily released from Sanandaj Central Prison on Thursday, March 4, 2021, after 16 months of imprisonment on a heavy bail of 1 billion and 500 million Tomans.
