In just a few minutes, the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Urmia heard the case of 18 residents of this city who had previously been abducted by the IRGC. Although a formal ruling has not yet been made, the judge in the case has verbally declared that the detainees will serve prison terms.
According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, in this court session, which was held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, the defendants were not allowed to present their defenses. The detainees' names are as follows: Amir Hossein Alinejad, Amir Reza Nemati, Hossein Ashouri, Reza Moradi Gajin, Salar Najafzadeh, Seyed Amir Mohammad Hosseini, Ali Ebrahimi, Ali Tabeeb, Golsa Bashiri Rad, Leila Alawieh, Mobeen Safari, Mohammad Eshghi, Mohammad Reza Saifullahzadeh, Mehrdad Shojaei Azar, Nazanin Ghahrani, Hadi Hasanlou, Pouria Azarhomayun and Samaneh Fathi, a 15-year-old teenager.
According to informed sources, these people have been accused of "acting to harm the integrity or independence of the country," "community and collusion to act against national security through teaching Molotov cocktails," and "propaganda against the regime." The judge in the cases has unofficially announced the possibility of each of these people being sentenced to 2–5 years in prison.
These sources added: "The court session, which was held in the third branch of the Urmia Revolution Court, ended without a verdict and with only five minutes for the defendants to defend the case, and other sessions may be held shortly."
Amir Hossein Alinejad and Amir Reza Nemati's bail has been set at 1 billion tomans, and the bail for the remaining defendants has been set at 500 million tomans. While some of these defendants are currently freed on bail, others remain in prison.
Earlier, the Intelligence Department of the IRGC in Urmia, by announcing the arrest of 25 protesting citizens, including 8 women in Urmia, claimed the arrest of the "Youths of the Urmia Neighborhoods network".
