The intelligence department of the IRGC are reportedly seeking to establish legal grounds for the execution of Reza Rasaei, a Yarsan citizen from Sahneh city who was subjected to severe physical torture during his detention.
According to Hengaw, the 34-year-old was tortured both physically and mentally into signing false confessions of involvement in the killing of a government official.
Mr. Rasaei is currently being held in Dizel Abad prison in Kermanshah and faces charges of "moharebah" (enmity against God ) due to his alleged role in the killing of Nader Bayrami, former head of the Intelligence department of the Revolutionary Guards in Sahneh city.
Nader Bayrami was killed on November 18, 2022, while personally suppressing a protest during the commemoration ceremony of Saeed Khalil AlaiNejad.
Despite an appeal from his family, the Intelligence department of the IRGC has declared a death sentence for Reza Rasaei. He was arrested on November 24, 2022, by Iranian authorities in the city of Karaj, and subsequently interrogated and transferred to Dizel Abad prison. During his detention, Rasaei was deprived of fundamental defense rights such as legal counsel and advice for nearly five months.
