Mamosta Sayyed Jalal Akbari, a religious figure from the town of Sarvabad in Kurdistan province (Sanandaj), has been sentenced to imprisonment by the designated clergy court of Hamedan.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on May 11, 2023, Seyyed Jalal Akbari, the imam of Friday prayers in the village of "Degaga" on the outskirts of Sarvabad County, was sentenced to a two-year suspended prison sentence by the Special Court for Clerics in Hamedan.
As per an informed source, the verdict against Mamosta Sayyed Jalal was issued on charges of "subversive propaganda," which he had previously summoned to the designated clergy court of Hamedan regarding similar accusations.
In a related development, in late April, the Special Court for Clerics in Hamedan also sentenced Mamosta Saber Khodamraddi, the imam of Friday prayers in Qavakh city in Saqqez, to 7 months of disciplinary imprisonment and 72 lashes.
