Nahib Hajizadeh, a Kurdish political prisoner in the central prison of Urmia, has gone on a hunger strike because he has been denied leave despite the need for medical treatment, and also a new case has been filed against him.
According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, from Tuesday, 6 June 2023, Nayib Hajizadeh, a Kurdish political prisoner from Urmia, protested against not being sent on medical leave, opening a new case and was transferred to solitary confinement and has gone on hunger strike.
Mr. Hajizadeh was transferred to the solitary cell of this prison for four days on the order of the authorities of Urmia prison on Thursday, June 1, 2023.
According to Hengaw’s sources, recently a new case was opened against Nayib Hajizadeh with the testimony of prisoners of dangerous crimes under the title of "insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran". This action took place while this political prisoner was attacked and beaten by prisoners of dangerous crimes.
Also, Nayib Hajizadeh's request for a recent medical leave, despite the agreement of the prison officials with the intervention of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards and other Iranian security institutions, has been rejected despite the need to be sent to medical centers immediately.
Nayib Hajizadeh also underwent surgery two years ago and was transferred from the hospital to prison without regaining full health, and he is still suffering from an internal abdominal tear.
In December 2020, he was sentenced to 10 years and one day in prison by the second branch of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court in Urmia on the charge of "acting against national security through membership in the Komala party" and finally a quarter of this term was reduced.
Nayib Hajizadeh was arrested by the Iranian government forces on October 8, 2019, and was transferred to the detention center of the Urmia Intelligence Department and then to the central prison of this city.
