After being released from the Ilam prison, Mehdi Sadeghi, a Kurd from Malekshahi City in Ilam province, committed suicide. He was imprisoned for six months after being detained during the Women, Life, and Freedom Revolution in Iran.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, in the early morning of Saturday, July 1, 2023, 25-year-old Mehdi Sadeghi committed suicide in Tehran, less than two weeks after the end of his prison term.

Mehdi Sadeghi reportedly traveled to Tehran from Ilam a few days ago, according to Hengaw sources, and it was later discovered that he committed suicide on Saturday.

Mehdi Sadeghi told Hengaw about the horrific torture he underwent and his terrible mental state while imprisoned after being released from prison.

Before that, Branch 103 of the Ilam Criminal Court, presided over by Judge "Alireza Hematizadeh," sentenced Mehdi Sadeghi to six months in prison, including time served in detention, 74 whippings, and a two-year ban on leaving the country for "disturbing public order through noise and controversy." He was arrested on Wednesday, Mehr 20, 1401, during the popular resistance of Ilam by Iranian government forces.

It is worth mentioning that Mehdi Sadeghi was deprived of access to a lawyer and other rights of the accused in a criminal proceeding during his detention and the court hearing.
