Nazila Maroufian, a student and journalist from Saqqez, who was also arrested during the recent nationwide protests, was arrested after being summoned to the Evin Prosecutor's Office.

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Saturday, July 8, 2023, Nazila Maroufian, a Kurdish journalist and student from Saqqez, was arrested by the Iranian security forces after being summoned to the Evin Prosecutor's Office in Tehran.

So far, detailed information about the reasons for summoning and arresting this journalist has not been made clear.

It is worth mentioning that on Tuesday last week, July 4, 2023, the Iranian security forces raided this journalist's house in Tehran and seized her personal belongings such as her mobile phone and laptop.

 

Before her arrest, she worked as a reporter for the Ruydad24; After the publication of an interview with Zhina Amini's father, on Sunday night, October 30, 2022, she was arrested by Iranian government forces in Tehran and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison.

Later, Nazila Maroufian was sentenced by Branch 16 of Tehran’s Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court headed by Judge Afshari to two years of imprisonment, a fine of 15 million tomans, and 5 years of ban from leaving the country.

The charges against this Kurdish journalist were announced as "propaganda activity against the regime" and "publishing lies intending to disturb the public mind through the publication of an interview with Mahsa Amini's father".
