Mahmoud Ojaghlu, an Azerbaijani-Turkish activist imprisoned in Evin prison, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison and additional punishments by the Iranian Judiciary.
 

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Mahmoud Ojaghlu, a resident of Tehran, was recently sentenced to five years in prison by Branch 15 of Tehran’s Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court headed by Judge Abulqasem Salavati for "gathering and collusion", one year in prison for the charge of "propaganda against the regime", five years in prison for the charge of "membership in opposition groups" and five years in prison for the charge of "inciting people to fight and kill each other to disrupt the security of the country" which makes a total of 16 years of imprisonment.
 

According to the Consolidation of Sentences Law, the severe punishment of five years of imprisonment will apply to Mahmoud Ojaghlu.
 

As a supplementary punishment, this citizen has been banned for two years from membership in political parties, groups, and organizations, and from working in the media and press. He also has been banned from leaving the country and accessing all social networks.
 

Also, Mahmoud Ojaghlu should organize, study and summarize books about Azerbaijan written by Heydar Pir Alilulu and Mohammad Rezarabani.
 

Mahmoud Ojaghlu was arrested on December 11, 2022, and transferred to Evin prison. He has been arrested by Iranian government forces before for his activities.
