Artist Hiva Seyfizadeh sentenced to four years in prison

Hiva Seyfizadeh, a Tehran-based artist and traditional and classical music singer, has been sentenced to four years in prison by the Iranian judiciary.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Seyfizadeh, who is also a theater performer, was sentenced to four years in prison on the charge of “promoting corruption and prostitution.”
In a video posted on her Instagram account, Seyfizadeh said she had been sentenced over a performance at Rooberoo Mansion in Tehran in which she sang several verses of poetry by the Persian poet Saadi.
She called on the appeals court to review her case and clarify which of her actions constituted the offense for which she was convicted.
Seyfizadeh was arrested on February 27, 2025, along with several members of her group during the performance at Rooberoo Mansion on allegations of performing without a permit. She was released on bail after one day in detention.
