Hiwa Azizpour, a athlete from Saqqez who was recently released on bail from prison, has been sentenced to a total of 39 months in prison by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He was detained during widespread protests against the systematic chemical attacks on schools.
 

According to a report received by the Hengaw organization for Human Rights, on Tuesday, July 25th, 2023, Hiwa Azizpour, a coach and athlete from Saqez, was sentenced by the first branch of the revolutionary court presided by chief Judge Javad Mostafaii. He was sentenced to 31 months and 15 days in prison for the charge of "membership in opposition against the regime" and 7 months and 15 days for "propaganda activities against the regime."
 

Under the article of cumulative sentences in the IRI penal code, the most severe punishment of 31 months and 15 days of imprisonment will be implemented.
 

According to an informed source, Hiwa Azizpour is solely accused and tried for "filming protests against the chemical attacks on students."
 

Hiwa Azizpour, a coach in the martial art of ninja, was arrested on Thursday, March 9th, 2023, at his private residence by government forces. He was temporarily released on a bail of 700 million tomans after spending 118 days in custody, until the end of the trial proceedings.
