Farzad Mahmoudi, a twenty-year-old Kurdish from Piranshahr, was killed by his superior with an official military weapon inside an military base at the Oshnaviyeh (Shno) border while serving a mandatory military service.
According to a report received by the Hengaw organization for Human Rights , on Monday, August 7th, 2023, Farzad Mahmoudi was shot dead at the "Kileh Shin" border base in Oshnaviyeh by gunfire from an official military weapon.
An informed source stated that Farzad Mahmoudi, who had been recently transferred from the Chiyaneh border base in Piranshahr to the Kileh Shin base, was directly targeted in the head twice by his superior and died instantly.
Hengaw has learned that government authorities have threatened Mahmoudi's family to refrain from disseminating news or media coverage of their son's death.
Based on the documented statistics at the Hengaw’s center of statistics, during the past two months, at least six Kurdish youths have either committed suicide or been killed by their superiors while serving in mandatory military service.
