Azadeh Chavoshian, a women's rights activist hailing from Rasht, was detained by Iranian government forces within the city and subsequently transported to an undisclosed location. Her arrest marks the 13th instance of a Gilak citizen being apprehended in Gilan over the past two days.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization For Human Rights, On the morning of Wednesday, August 16, 2023, Azadeh Chavoshian, a women's rights activist and music teacher, was apprehended by Iranian government forces in Rasht.
So far, there is no available information regarding the charges against Azadeh Chavoshian, nor have the conditions and location of her detention.
Hengaw had previously reported the arrest of a minimum of nine women's rights activists across various cities in Gilan, revealing their identities as Matin Yazdani, Frough Saminia, Yasmin Hashdari, Jelveh Javaheri, Negin Rezaei, Zahra Dadras, Zohreh Dadras, Vahadeh Khoshsirat, and Shivah Shahsia.
Furthermore, on Wednesday evening, a couple residing in Rasht, identified as Sara Jahani, a pharmacist, and Homan Taheri, were arrested by the Intelligence Department forces. Additionally, on Thursday, August 17, Mahsa Basir Tavana, the sister of the deceased young man Mehran Basir Tavana from Fuman, was also arrested and subsequently transported to an undisclosed location.
The ongoing efforts by the families of the thirteen detained Gilak citizens have not yielded any outcomes thus far. Regrettably, there is a lack of information regarding the current status, conditions of detention, and the specific charges brought against them.
