The verdict of execution for Shoresh Morwati, who had previously escaped from Saqqez Central Prison during a prison break and was later recaptured, has been carried out at Sanandaj Central Prison. He had been sentenced to death on charges of "homicide."

According to reports received by the Hengaw organization for Human Rights, on the early hours of Tuesday, August 22nd, 2023, the execution verdict for Shoresh Morwati, a Saqqez resident imprisoned at Sanandaj Central Prison, was executed.

The execution of this prisoner was initially scheduled to take place last Tuesday but was postponed due to the absence of the victim's family. Hengaw previously reported that with the pressure exerted by the prosecutors in Saqqez and Sanandaj on the victim's family to proceed, the execution was going to be implemented Tuesday(today).

Shoresh Morwati had been arrested in 2009 on charges of homicide  during an armed robbery and subsequently sentenced to death by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Last fall, during the “Jin, Jian, Azadi” Revolution, Shoresh Morwati had been transferred to solitary confinement at the Sanandaj Intelligence Office during the prison uprising at Sanandaj Central Prison. On Friday, July 28, 2022, after ten months, he was relocated to the general ward of Sanandaj Central Prison.

Shoresh Morwati, on the 28th of March 2020, escaped from Saqqez Central Prison during a prisoner break. He was apprehended on the 6th of April same year, just ten days after his escape, in the village of Sabadlou in the suburbs of the border town of Baneh, along with another prisoner named Shayan Saeedpour.

Shayan Saeedpour and Mustafa Salimi were two other escapees sentenced to death and in 2020 their execution verdicts were carried out at Saqqez Central Prison.
