Puya Babaei, a young Kurdish tradesman from Javanrud, was violently arrested by Iranian police forces after shooting at his vehicle and was later killed by beating and torture.

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Friday, September 8, 2023, 26-year-old Puya Babaei, a Kurdish citizen from the village of "Pirbava" of Javanrud and a resident of this city, after a week of detention and hospitalization in the Iranian detention centers in Kermanshah died due to a brain injury and fracture of the vertebrae caused by the beating and torture.

According to an informed source, Pouya Babaei was arrested last week near Hamil city in Kermanshah province, While he was traveling without cargo to the southern cities of Iran, on the road by shooting at the front wheels of his car, He was severely beaten and tortured so that he suffered a concussion and a fracture in his spine, which later caused his death.

Following Puya Babaei’s murder by Iranian government agents, his wife, who had been married about a month ago, had a mental breakdown and is currently being treated in the hospital. Her health condition is reported to be unstable.

Hengaw has also been informed that, by putting pressure on Babaei's family, the Iranian Intelligence in Javanrud prevented them from holding a funeral service at the mosque and warned them against spreading any information about this matter.

It is worth noting that shooting at cars is completely exceptional in Article 6 of the Law on the Use of Restricted Weapons, but in the cities of Kurdistan, Iranian government agents shoot at people and cars claiming to be suspicious, without observing any legal system, and this has become a continuous practice of the Iranian government forces.
