Mohammad Navid Badami, a graduate student at the University of Tehran who was detained earlier this year, has been sentenced by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to one year of imprisonment and 74 lashes.

According to reports received by the Hengaw organization for Human Rights, Mohammad Navid Badami, a resident of Tehran and a graduate student, was convicted by Branch 29 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, headed by chief judge Ali Mazloum, on charges of "disturbing public order" to one year of imprisonment and flagging of 74 lashes.

Hengaw has been informed that seven months out of the one-year disciplinary imprisonment sentence have been suspended.

Mohammad Navid Badami, a graduate student in linguistics at the University of Tehran, was arrested on the 20th of May while participating in a rally protesting the execution of the inmates in the "House of Isfahan" case.

After 24 days of detention, this student was finally released on bail until the completion of the legal proceedings after depositing a bail in the amount of 700 million Iranian tomans.
