A woman sentenced to imprisonment for walking her dog at park in Tehran-Iran

In a recent legal development in Tehran Neghin Chaparian, a resident of Tehran, has been sentenced to one year of punitive imprisonment by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran. This individual had previously become the target of an assault by a government-supporting assailant due to what was termed "walking a dog in the park" and subsequently had published a video of the incident.

According to reports obtained by the Hengaw organization for Human Rights, on Saturday, December 2nd, 2023, Neghin Chaparian, a 34 years old resident of Tehran, was sentenced to one year imprisonment by Branch 29 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran under the chief Judge Ali Mazloum.

According to informed sources, the charges against this individual include "propaganda against the government," "encouragement of corruption," "disruption of public chastity," and "connections with foreign opposition networks."

Neghin Chaparian was detained on Monday, August 6th, 2023, at her private residence by intelligence forces. After a day of detention and clarification of the charges at the Security Court, she was temporarily released posting a bail in the amount of a 700 million tomans.

Her arrest occurred three months after an assailant had attacked her for walking a dog in the park. Later, she had taken the initiative to publish a video documenting the confrontation with the assailant.
