Iran, Rasht: Mahsa Jalal Badiyi Transferred to Prison to Serve Sentence

Mahsa Jalal Badiyi, a Gilak resident of Rasht, has been arrested and transferred to Lakan Prison in Rasht to begin serving her prison sentence.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Sunday, October 13, 2024, Mahsa Jalal Badiyi, 39, was arrested after being summoned to the enforcement branch of the Revolutionary Court in Rasht and subsequently transferred to Lakan Prison to serve her sentence of 3 years and 6 months.

Previously, Mahsa Jalal Badiyi was sentenced to 7 months and 16 days in prison for “propaganda against the government” and 3 years and 6 months for “educational and promotional activities contrary to or disturbing Islamic law.” Under the law of combining sentences, the most severe sentence—3 years and 6 months—will be enforced.

Additionally, this Gilak woman has been deprived of all social rights for 10 years as part of her punishment.

Her charges include sharing content related to the theory of evolution on social media and conducting research on scientific and cultural topics.

Mahsa Jalal Badiyi was detained on May 13, 2024, by security forces in Rasht and was temporarily released on bail after six days.
